Daniel Talko
Daniel grew up in a small Victorian town of Bairnsdale. At the age of 21 he was diagnosed with Usher Syndrome Type 2a. Forced to choose between waiting for blindness, deafness and disability or a life well lived Daniel took off around the world to find himself.
Remarkably, coming to grips with sight loss gave him an innate desire to see it all. It encouraged internal reflection & personal growth ensued. The moments of humiliation & struggle, were essentially freeing. It presented the opportunity to live a full & meaningful life which Dan has embraced. Along with much trial and error Daniel has now experienced that disability need never hold him back.
Daniel is now in pursuit of having a positive impact on others through coaching and is a qualified arborist, myotherapist and occupational therapist. He has performed as a standup comedian and completed a beginners acting course three times! Finally discovering that by journeying inwards and becoming a student of oneself, bliss and competence can increasingly be found, retained and deepened.
Daniel has developed a deep passion for infinite personal growth and empowerment. Daniel hopes to share this mindset with others who desire more out of their lives, whether or not they have a disability or not.
He now spends his time working everyday to be a better stay at home father, basketball coach, life coach, and husband.
Daniel’s goals for 2022 are to play polo, introduce himself to the deafblind community and further enhance his personal gratitude.
This presentation was produced by Dan’s friend, film maker Marcus Cobbledick, for the Usher Syndrome Pre-Conference Workshop held in Perth in June, 2022.
