Family Weekend in Melbourne –

16th & 17th May 2026 

Join us for the UsherKids Australia Family Weekend , a special event designed to bring together families of children and young people with Usher syndrome from across Australia.

Held at the exceptional Guide Dogs Victoria facility in Kew, Melbourne in May 2026, this weekend offers an opportunity to connect with other families, hear from experts in hearing and vision care, and strengthen the sense of belonging within our growing community.

Over two inspiring days, families will have the chance to:

• Meet and connect with other families walking a similar path.

• Learn from health and education professionals who understand Usher syndrome.

• Engage in interactive sessions for parents, siblings, and young people alike.

• Explore new strategies for navigating the journey from diagnosis through adolescence and beyond.

• Celebrate the resilience, strength, and hope that define our community.or the Whole Family

The weekend is designed to support every member of the family:

• Parents can take part in workshops and discussions about managing change, accessing supports, and promoting independence.

• Children and teens can join fun, age-appropriate activities that encourage connection, confidence, and peer support.

• Siblings will also have opportunities to connect with others who understand what it’s like to grow up alongside a brother or sister with Usher syndrome.

These informal zoom calls give UsherKids Australia parents the opportunity to meet and share their experiences with other parents who have children with Usher syndrome. UsherKids Australia Case Coordinator Tracey Johnston will facilitate the calls, sometimes inviting a guest speaker or focusing on type-specific topics.
